“Why don’t your people make war?”
“War?” he asked, puzzled for a moment as he reflected on the question. Then he looked directly at me and replied through a colleague of mine who was translating: “Typhoons, earthquakes, and tsunamis are forces of nature we cannot control. But war is made by us. Therefore, it can be stopped by us.”
He spoke as if the answer were obvious.
